Support » Fixing WordPress » [Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Gallery interfering with Twitter script / web page display

  • Hello! Not sure what to do here, I don’t have too great of coding / scripting experience. Hoping someone has seen this issue before and can offer suggestions!

We’re developing a WordPress site for our school district. I have numerous NextGEN Galleries on my pages for each school or department. I also have in another widget on the same page copied a Twitter script that displays a Twitter list.

My issue is, when these two items are on the same page, about 1/3rd to 1/2 the time, right after the page loads (content, theme, Gallery, and Twitter), I “lose” the entire page and all I see is the Twitter feed (minus any text or size formatting, like it lost its CSS) on an otherwise blank screen.

It doesn’t happen all the time, but it does happen on any page when both these things are together. I can definitely say that the issue never happens when the Gallery is removed from the page — then, the page always loads and stays loaded correctly. I suspect that this issue only appears in the Google Chrome browser, but I’m not 100% sure yet on this. It can happen for awhile, then stop for a day, then start up again. We’ve considered weird characters in Twitter but this has been going on for awhile, I don’t think it’s that.

I suppose this could be the Twitter feed script, but again the issue never arises when the Gallery is removed from the page. If the Twitter script is removed, the Gallery is always OK. I have 1.9.3 of the Gallery.

I REALLY like how easy NextGEN Gallery is to use, I hope I can get some ideas to resolve this. We’re supposed to go live in about two weeks, so I have some time to work on this while we’re getting content organized and posted. Otherwise, I will need to find another image rotator, which I don’t want to do, but we have to have the Twitter feeds and a rotator. I can’t find a decent Twitter widget with clean formatting and the ability to show a user list (not user tweets), or else I’d consider switching to that.

If you use Chrome, you can see this on

    Thanks in advance!

  • I should add, this behavior also happens with the latest release of Firefox, but apparently not with Internet Explorer. Removing the NextGen gallery widget definitely stops the page from getting screwed up.
