    Hi there!

I’ve just started using this plugin and it is really, really great. The most important factor for me is that my clients understand how to add custom image(s) without me having to explain to them how it works. In other words, I love the way the whole process of adding custom images has been made HCI and GUI wise.

Lately I’ve had the need to have custom field file attachments for posts and I’ve tried many approaches like http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/wordpress/creating-custom-fields-for-attachments-in-wordpress/ but they are just not intuitive enough for the user IMHO. So, is there any way multiple-post-thumbnails can be expanded to work for all file types and not just images?

The naive approach of just uploading a pdf or something instead of an image file results in the error “could not set that as the thumbnail image” when you click e.g. “Set as MyFile Attachment” .. The error message seems to come from wp-includes/script-loader.php which is of course understandable as it probably tries to resize the image or something. However, maybe it’s possible to make it bypass any checks and let it just save the attachment id to the custom field?

The code in this plugin uses the normal WordPress featured image code and extends it to be a bit more flexible. Due to that it would take a bit of work to do what you want. It should be possible, but would take some time. I’m happy to accept patches for this is someone wants to implement it.
