Meteor Slides
[resolved] Random Start (only) (14 posts)

    I looked around for a way to randomize the first slide, but not randomize after that. There is a way to randomize every time, <?php if ( function_exists( 'meteor_slideshow') ) { meteor_slideshow( "", "random: 1" ); } ?> , but I could see that getting annoying for users if they just want to cycle through my slides.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi Cory, I'm afraid the random option is going to be all or nothing!

    That's alright. I think I'll keep it anyways but I'm having two other issues maybe you can address :)

    1. The first image in my slider loads and then the random image loads. Is there a reason it's doing this?

    2. When the first image loads it's off (a little to the upper-right) and then adjusts once the slider begins. I think I saw this problem on the forums already, but I can find it again.

    Thanks for the help! Very very very much appreciated!

    Did you get this figured out, it looks like is loading correctly to me. O maybe it only does it in a certain browser?

    It's still doing it for me. I'm using Chrome & Firefox on my Mac. I'll give you some screenshots.

    The "Video Game Dubstep Remixes" image always loads before the slider, slightly off to the right (you can see it's not center)

    Then the actual slider loads and centers up.

    Is there a reason that image loads first (off to the right) and then skips to the first random image?

    I also use your slider on my other site and I don't seem to have this problem. http://zech.mn

    Thanks again for the help :D

    Ah, I think I know what is going on. The stylesheet for the slideshow is setup to hide all but the first slide until the slideshow script kicks in and takes over the visibility of the slides.

    But when you have it set to random, the first slide isn't necessarily the one you want showing before the slideshow fully loads. Try using a custom stylesheet with this line removed:

    .meteor-slides .mslide-1 {
    	display: block;
    }

    wow! you're customer service is unmatched.

    One last question and I'll *try* to leave you alone. I use the Digg Digg plugin that floats to the left of every page. For some reason the Meteor Slides pushes it down. Did I place the code wrong?

    Thank you, thank you, thank you (thank you)

    You're welcome Cory! The Digg Digg dd_ajax_float container is within the first post's home-post-wrap container, so it can't go any higher than that.

    Do you have control over the placement of the Digg Digg box? I would try putting it in the left-inside container at the same level as the slideshow and posts if you can.

    eh, seems to be above my expertise. all good, i'll just pretend like it's suppose to be like that ;) but is there a way to remove the slider from Page 2 and beyond?

    It depends on whether you are using the blog or a static page for the homepage. If it is static, try this:

    <?php if ( is_front_page() && !is_paged() ) {

    	if ( function_exists( 'meteor_slideshow' ) ) { meteor_slideshow(); }

    }?>

    Or for a blog homepage try this:

    <?php if ( is_home() && !is_paged() ) {

    	if ( function_exists( 'meteor_slideshow' ) ) { meteor_slideshow(); }

    }?>

    is there a way I can put this margin image (that goes right below Meteor Slides) in there too? I use a "blog homepage," btw.

    <img src="http://silencenogood.net//wordpress/wp-content/themes/basic/images/shadow.gif" title="margin" alt="margin" width="658px" style="margin-bottom: 0px;" />

    Rated ya 5/5 :) if there's anything else I can do let me know!

    Sure, you just need to echo that markup out so you can use it in PHP:

    <?php if ( is_home() && !is_paged() ) {

    	if ( function_exists( 'meteor_slideshow' ) ) { meteor_slideshow();

    	echo '<img src="http://silencenogood.net//wordpress/wp-content/themes/basic/images/shadow.gif" title="margin" alt="margin" width="658px" style="margin-bottom: 0px;" />';

     }

    }?>

    Thanks for the rating Cory!
