The player works in Chrome and Firefox. In IE9 the player renders but shows the spinning wait icon indefinitely and never plays video. On IE8 the player renders and says it's playing video (you can can see the progress bars moving) but there is no actual video or audio, just a black rectangle.

I have the exact same problem, the player works fine on Chrome, Safari, iPad, and iPhone. It does not play video or audio on Firefox and Internet explorer.

The Script has to be loaded in <head> [1], therefore you have do disable the "Load Script on Demand" option as it puts the scripts into the footer [2].

I must correct myself. It still doesn't work. Manually upgrading or downgrading mediaelement.js didn't help. After deleting *min.js, I was able to playback Videos in Firefox (HTML5), Chrome (HTML5), Opera (HTML5) and IE8 (Flash), but with different UIs.
