Paul – great idea for a plugin, but I’ve run aground the first time I’ve used it…

My problem is I’ve set up a custom post type, but activating Media Tags 404s the custom post permalinks. Deactivating the plugin and resubmitting the permalinks brings it back, so I’m guessing the way that Media Tags adds its rewrite rules kills off custom types (and taxonomies?).

I’m using the default rewriting style for the custom post (‘rewrite’=>true) so I’m not doing anything past what is described in the codex for custom post types.

Fixing this would be absolutely fantastic, and I’m guessing you might start getting this one a bit more as people start experimenting more with the new bits of 3.0.

  • Rossi, I’m using WP 3.0 with Media Tags and custom post types with no problems. Are you suggesting that’s because I activated Media Tags first?

Ross, I’m the author of the Media-Tags plugin. I’ve been using the plugin with three new Post Types and within those types I have 3-5 taxonomies each. All with rewrite/slugs enables (unique of course).

Would like to know more about how you are using the plugin and how you are running into issues. Feel free to email me direct. Would love to see some of the code you are using so that I can try and replicate the issues. paul at codehooligans dot com

I know this is a somewhat old post, but I wanted to chime in and say that I saw the same issue. I installed the plugin, added a couple of tags, then noticed that all custom post type URLs ceased to function. Disabling and hitting save on the permalinks page fixed it.

@jrsmith thanks for the comment on this thread. I’ve not been able to reproduce on my development systems. But generally that just means I’m not doing something right. 🙂

Can you tell me a little about your setup? How are you creating the custom post types? What rewrite setup do these custom post types have. Is it just your own post types or does this effect the built-in Categories and Post Tags? What version of Media-Tags are you running? Assumed WP 3.0.

If you are adding your own custom post types via your theme’s functions.php or plugin can you share that file with me? Having a real world use is better than trying to create things on my end.
