I really wanted to use the multiple sign up box functionality, so I installed it, fine. Clicked activate. Nothing but a blank white screen. Can’t access anything on the admin side, all I get are blank screens.

So I grit my teeth and I go look in my ftp directory- and there’s NO directory for the blasted thing. Logged out. Logged in again. No directory.

Any suggestions for my next steps?

    Hi Kaelin,

Could you tell me the url I should look at to diagnose this?

    Thanks!

    Hi James,

I went ahead and deleted it through my back up FTP. Um. I also don’t think you could see the problem without logging in to the admin.

I’m fairly leery of installing it again and not being able to delete it!  I did save the URL of the install right before it hung up:

    http://www.kaelindesign.com/wp-admin/update.php?action=install-plugin&plugin=mailchimp-widget&_wpnonce=a66a8c5022

Does that help?  If you really need it, I’ll try to reinstall. Just give me a bit to figure out how to backup everything. I’m a little new to wordpress as a cms, and it’s a fairly complicated task it seems! 🙂

I really do want to use your plugin, so I’ll help however I can!

    Hi Kaelin,

My suspicion is that server or connection speed is the likely culprit here. From the url you posted, it looks like the plugin was never even activated… Btw, which version of WordPress are you using? I’ve only tested it on 3.0.1 and 3.0.2, so that might be another potential source of the issue. Finally, if you’re using an older version of PHP, the loader function my plugin uses will fail, although it should probably fail loudly rather than just not working.

My advice: give it another try… If you continue to have trouble, hit me up here, or on my email address (which is included with the plugin documentation).

    Cheers,

I’m seeing a bit of funny path information on your site. In your “Browse the Catalog” widget, the path is to a localhost, which suggests you might be having some trouble moving the site from development to production. This may or may not have anything to do with the problems you’re running into with my plugin, but it’s something to look into. (Could be as simple as a hardcoded image link that you cut and pasted over.)

    Cheers,

    James

Oh I’ve had nothing but trouble with the transfer. Which is exceptionally irritating, as the other site I’m working on transferred like a breeze. Thank you for pointing out the local host issue- I’ll fix that.

As far as my host, they are running PHP 5.2, and I’m running WordPress 3.0.1

Now. I couldn’t activate the plugin, because THAT’s where it failed. Upon clicking “activate”. I’ll try again, and let you know what I find.

Nope. Page comes up blank, and this is the link. I can’t get to any other admin page at all…

    Hi Kaelin,

I’ve sent you an email so we can maybe look into this a bit further without risking posting more sensitive information in a public forum. When we find a solution or discover what the issue is, I’ll post it back to the forum again so that everyone else can see the resolution.

    Cheers,

On further investigation, the issue here was related to the spl_autoload’s functioning on some systems. There was a stack error being triggered that wasn’t reporting b/c of error reporting for php was turned off. I patched the plugin so that loading fails more gracefully, which resolved the issue. The patch is in 0.2.1.

    I’m marking this thread resolved.
