MailChimp List Subscribe Form
No way to be redirected to my custom thank you page (6 posts)

I am using a designed mailchimp form into a WP post, with the shortcode. It works fine but after I submit the form I can't be redirected to my custom Thank You page, which I specified in the appropriate field. I only got this green javascript text on the top, telling I subscribed, and a suffix on the same form url i was.

Then I decided to use the embed code form, and it works, except the redirect to my thank you page, which opens in a new window...

According with mailchimp support service I should hire a custom coder, that really frustrated me (i can show you the chat logs).

Can you believe that it's impossible for millions of wordpress users to find a way to be redirected to a custom thank you page with mailchimp?

    Thank you very much,

    Hey there, Domisol!

Thanks for reaching out to us, we can certainly understand the frustration.

The plugin is designed (as you mentioned) to validate the entries inline, producing the green box to let your subscribers know that everything is good to go. If you're wanting to have your subscribers go to a "thank you" page, you can definitely do that with the embedded form (that you alluded to).

The embed code is set up to open up the "thank you" page in a new window by default so that your subscribers don't leave your page. However, you can remove that setting by tinkering with the code that's generated from MailChimp. Once the javascript has been disabled for your form, you'll want to generate the code through MailChimp and embed it in your website.

If we dig through the code here, the form is set to open up the thank you page in a new target:
    <form action="http://mailchimp.us4.list-manage2.com/subscribe/post?u=blahblahblah&id=blahblah" method="post" id="mc-embedded-subscribe-form" name="mc-embedded-subscribe-form" class="validate" target="_blank">

Removing the target="_blank" portion from the code will allow the "thank you" page to open in the same window as the form.

Let us know if we can help with anything else!

So are you not using the plugin? You are using the code from Mailchimp? How did you get that to work. I'm unable to get it to work and Mailchimp says that the code will not work in wordpress. I'm really confused now.

    Hey there, JGSketch!

The issue we were hashing out above is to get the custom "Thank You" page to display within the same window as the WordPress page. Essentially, this will redirect the people who are on your site to the custom "Thank You" page.

There shouldn't be a problem with this using the MailChimp embed form and the method detailed above (rather than the MailChimp plugin).

Was there a specific issue you were running into?

    Give us a shout back!
