Support » Plugin: OneSignal - Web Push Notifications » Plugin keeps disabling itself. Major design flaw.

  • I had to uninstall this plugin on 4 different websites due to major design flaws and lack of support.

Every day the plugin automatically disable itself because it’s sending too many notifications at once. I have this problem because I run an auto-blog with an RSS aggregator and the users subscribe to get alerted when the news is released. I would have the same problem on my Xenforo forums if too many users posts at once.

I suggested the developers’ different ways to easily avoid this problem by throttling notifications on plugin side, but I’m being asked to pay over $100 per month to subscribe to a plan that is supposed to fix this issue. OneSignal support blamed it on the RSS aggregator plugin but the plugin we are using is the official OneSignal WordPress plugin. It’s created and maintained by your own company, not by a third party. The RSS aggregator is not sending the notifications – your official plugin is.

I don’t understand why OneSignal didn’t implement some kind of internal throttling on the plugin-side to delay the notifications in order to avoid sending too many of them and exceeding the limits. Another solution would be to just have an option to limit the maximum number of daily notifications and stop sending alerts when the threshold is reached, instead of just disabling the plugin automatically and forcing the users to re-enable it manually every single day. Just need to count the notifications sent and stop sending them when the threshold is reached.

    Very disappointed with this plugin.

It sounds like you may have an old version of the plugin. We actually implemented exactly what you are describing in a recent release. Could you please update and test? Please let us know if this resolves your issue.
