I don’t think its a memory limit issue.
I am running two installations of wordpress on the same server. They both have the same version of WP and both running the same version of Jetpack (1.6.1).
One is working fine and the other just falls over.
The only difference between the two installations is that in one I am using date based archiving whereas in the other I am not.
@yakos do you have different plugins installed on the 2 sites? Or exactly the same plugins, configured in the same way? The error you posted is definitely a memory problem on your server, so even if that’s not explicitly what’s causing Jetpack problems, it’s causing problems on your site.

Hi Beau,
Thnks for the reply. No both installations don’t have exactly the same plugins. They’re independent from each other.
@yakos: on the one that you’re getting the error with, are there any plugins you can try disabling temporarily just to see if that makes the difference? Loading less plugins means using less memory, so it might be that disabling a few will allow your site to work.

Hi Beau,
Thanks again.
I am about to increase the memory limit from 64mb to 256mb to see if it makes a difference. I will then report back.
As far as I remember I need to do that in php.ini and wp-config.php before clearing cache on the browser. I will let you know

Well, reporting back
I increased the memory size to 128MB and as soon as I activated Jetpack 1.6.1 it came up with this error –
Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://diasporic.org/wp-admin/plugins.php?activate=true&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s=. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
* Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error). An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.
Hence NO GO !!!!

Can I retract my previous message?
I tried restarting the browser this time and after going into admin again it allowed me to activate Jetpack. So we’re all go !!!!
Must have been cache last time.
I am happy it was memory… Thank you all for your help
I am having the same issues I upgraded to 1.6.1 and since my admin panel not working when i try to click any link on dashboard giving me server error but when i refresh the page its coming back, i have spent 3 hrs with yahoo web hosting for tech support but no luck.. I did un-install jet pack and stil having same issues.. any help would be great
@pgoutam: If you disabled Jetpack and you’re still having the trouble, then it sounds like it’s not something caused by Jetpack.
If you’re getting errors in your server log they might help figure out what’s going on.
If your problem is related to jetpack stats not working in your dashboard we were successful with a full un-install from the server side. Then a re-install from the plugins dashboard within your theme.
Basically we logged into our host account located the plugins folder and removed it completely. The we logged into our dashboard and reinstalled jetpack
Hey, not sure if my problem is the same.
I downloaded the jetpack plugin, everything was great.
Then I went to connect with wordpress.com
I didn’t have an account there, so to make an account I ended up making a new account, then I proceeded to go back to my original account to change the settings on the plugin.
Only, I received this message instead:
Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.airportmotorhomes.ca/wp-admin/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Did I do something incorrectly?
Resolved – My problem was increasing the PHP memory limit.
