The plugin is phoning home which is against the plugin guidelines.
I don’t remember to have signed up for this neither is there an opt out.

    The url called is http://mothership.caseproof.com/license_keys/a/MY_URL/

I don’t have a license for anything and hence no need to check with another url that at the time I am writing this is also down which is probably not helping my site either.

For me, this is the end of using Pretty Links, but I wanted to give you a fair chance to fix it.

    *Looks*

This seems to be defined in this file.

*Looks more, sets up localhost logging proxy just to capture that*

Oh yeah. It does that when you visit any link in your dashboard. That is not cool and does violated item #7. My test installation isn’t well visited and I’ve already sent out 9 requests in less that 10 minutes.

    *Disables plugin*

I’ve reported this to the plugins team via plugins@wordpress.org and in the future if you can provide details like this you can too.

Thanks for the heads up guys, this looks like a bug in our new 2.0 release’s maybe_activate() method. We’ll get a fix out for this soon. Definitely shouldn’t be calling home in the Lite version!

Thomas & Jan, Thanks for the heads up … it was definitely not our intention to have the plugin hitting this url on admin_init in the lite edition (or in any edition of our plugin with this frequency). We just issued a commit for a version 2.0.2 that resolves this issue. We completely removed the ‘admin_init’ actions that were being called.

Thank you Blair for fixing it so quickly.
Thank you Jan for investigating further. The Query Monitor plugin helped me to spot it.
