# [Plugin: HungryFEED] Apply custom classes/attributes to parsed elements

 * First of all, thanks for giving us HungryFEED, it really solves any problems 
   for customizing feeds as we want them.
 * I am trying to configure a custom display and behavior of Google news feed in
   a site I am creating. I have found what div of the feed to select (excluding 
   the images on feed items). The problem is that the links do not have a target
   attribute set, so they open in same browser tab.
    I solved this easily with some
   javascript help. Maybe not the best and fastest solution, but it does the job.
 * 1st, in custom template I used:
    `<div class="hungryfeed_item" onmouseover="changeHFaTag()"
   >` 2nd, in page with (HTML) I used:
 *     ```

       function changeHFaTag()
       {
         var HF_items = document.getElementsByClassName('hungryfeed_item');
         for (var i=0; i<HF_items.length; i++)
         {
           var FHitem_atags = HF_items[i].getElementsByTagName('a');
           for (var t=0; t<FHitem_atags.length; t++)
           {
             FHitem_atags[t].target = "_blank";
           }
         }
       }
       </script>
       ```
   
 * That took care of opening links in new tabs.
 * Then I tried to extend the same logic to use Easy FancyBox plugin, by using the
   usual class name “fancybox iframe” for a tags.
    So, I added `FHitem_atags[t].
   className = "fancybox iframe";` in the tags loop. The class name changes (is 
   created actually) just fine, but FancyBox does not work and it doesn’t open an
   iframe for the link.
 * Do you have any ideas what is going on?
    I am not a php/html/javascript expert,
   so I suspect I am missing something …
 * Is it possible for HungryFEED to have some options to insert parameters for the
   elements we read from feeds? Or even use shortcodes to wrap them with.
    This 
   will open up many formatting options if you consider the number of available 
   plugins we can use to do this job.

 * cool, you could do something like this as to take advantage of jquery – i put
   the following in the hungryfeed “Custom CSS Code” field. it’s kinda hacky the
   way it breaks out of the style tag, but it works.

       h3.hungryfeed_feed_title {}
       p.hungryfeed_feed_description {}
       div.hungryfeed_items {}
       div.hungryfeed_item {margin-bottom: 10px;}
       div.hungryfeed_item_title {font-weight: bold;}
       div.hungryfeed_item_description {}
       div.hungryfeed_item_author {}
       div.hungryfeed_item_date {}
       </style>
       <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.7.1.min.js"></script>

 * Lol, I knew I have missed the obvious.
    I really should stop working after midnight…
 * To the point:
    Thanks for giving me the answer, it works on all browsers (IE,
   FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari). As I already have jquery loaded (version 1.6.1), 
   I used a slightly modified version:
 *     ```
       <script type="text/javascript">
        jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
         $('.hungryfeed_item a').attr("target", "_blank");
         $('.hungryfeed_item a').addClass("fancybox iframe {width:930,height:680}");
        });
       </script>
       ```
   
 * The change for target worked, but still nothing happens when I apply the fancybox
   class.
    Any thoughts about why? I suspect that the link must be created with 
   fancybox class and not modified as I am trying to do. That’s why I asked if HungryFEED
   can have an option to apply these changes when it creates the modified feed.
 * Even if we can’t find an answer for fancybox, applying target is good enough 
   to do the job.

 * I can’t thank you enough for pushing me in the right direction.
    The solution
   for using fancybox iframe on feed links turned out to be twofold:
 *     ```
       <script type="text/javascript">
        jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
         $('.hungryfeed_item a').attr("target", "_blank");
         $('.hungryfeed_item a').addClass("fancybox iframe {width:930,height:680}");
         $('.hungryfeed_item a').fancybox({
           'centerOnScroll' : 'true',
           'content':$(this).attr('src')
         });
        });
       </script>
       ```
   
 * 1. Add the fancybox class I needed for the link (with parameters for the iframe
   case)
    2. Actually “perform the action” when the link is clicked
 * I had to make some experiments to find out where to put the width and height 
   parameters, but that took no time to solve it.
    HungryFEED and fancybox combination
   makes a really nice effect …
