Support » Plugins » [Plugin: Google XML Sitemaps] Sitemap.xml 404 error – not accessible

  • I just installed the xml google sitemap generator. Everything installed correctly and the sitemap.xml file was generated and is chmod 777. However, I cannot access the xml file by simply going to Google can’t see it, I can’t access it, I just get 404.

However, I can download the sitemap.xml file to my desktop and access it through a browser and it works perfectly. Does anyone have a clue why browsers and such cannot access this xml file from the server?

    1. The url should be

2, You’re using some form of redirection which may be causing a problem.

Have you tried FTP’ing into your server and checking to see if the sitemap.xml file exists?

Yes, I can download the file from FTP and access it. I forgot to include the /blog/ in my url, but the issue is just the same.

I deactivated a Link Shortcut plugin I was planning on using, and that didn’t help.

I did make a sitemap using, uploaded it and it still gave me a 404. However, if I move the .xml files to another directory, such as the root directory it is visible and can be accessed by a browser.

I don’t know where to go from here.
