[Plugin: Google XML Sitemaps] Sitemap Error – HTTP Error: 500

    My sitemap was rejected by Google with the following –

    We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.
    HTTP Error: 500
    Problem detected on: Mar 21, 2011

    There was a second error message with the same wording but no reference information.

    I’m using WP 3.0.1 running on a server at Total Choice Hosting
    The site in question is a subdomain.

    I’d appreciate any suggestions on where to look for a problem. I have no idea what to do to resolve this issue.
    A small amount of research suggests that

    HTTP Error 500

    is something to do with the server side but since the definition of the error is vague its not clear whether this would be to do with the server setup, the WP files or the plugin.

    Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
