I work on a multisite network that uses a Google Search Appliance for search and Yoast’s Google Analytics plugin. For CDN caching reasons I needed to set-up clean search permalinks like http://www.people-press.org/search/obama/ where “obama” is the search term.
The Google Analytics plugin does a great job of making sure the original, unpretty search permalink gets sent to Google Analytics in the form http://www.people-press.org/?s=obama. The problem is since I’m using a template redirect all searches from the search form go to http://www.people-press.org/?s=obama and then are redirected to http://www.people-press.org/search/obama/ Google analytics has no record of the pretty permalink url.
Doing an analysis of search terms all of my destinations are listed as http://www.people-press.org/?s=whatever which is of no help.
Any ideas on how I can use a pretty permalink search URL and have Google Analytics track the destination page accurately? If you’re curious about my source code, take a look for yourself: http://svn.kingkool68.com/projects/wp-GSA/
