# [Plugin: Get Custom Field Values] Using the shortcode

 * I’ve been using the ‘get custom fields’ plugin and I LOVE it. Indispensable part
   of the CMS in my opinion.
 * I’m just wondering how to get the shortcodes to work- If I had an example I could
   probably use that to create my own. The reason I need a shortcode is because 
   I need a way to include custom field values in my posts and pages, entered in
   via the visual editor and not hard-coded in the page templates. The “shortcodes”
   I’m referring to look like this with square brackets in other plugins:
 * [polldaddy poll = 335262] -which can be pasted in the visual editor, and the 
   poll is included.
 * The sidebar of the dashboard doesn’t seem to work. When I click ‘send shortcode
   to editor’ there is no confirmation and nothing seems to happen.
 * Any info/help with this is much appreciated!

 * The “send shortcode to editor” button in the shortcode editor does not work as
   inorganik. I’m using WP 3.0. Will the plugin be updated for this version of WordPress?

 * The latest version of the plugin, v3.2, should fix the issue.
 * I should also document the shortcode, which I intended to do with this release.
   However, I didn’t, but I’ll do so for the next release.

 * For me, the “Get Custom Field Values – Shortcode” option appears in posts and
   pages, but not custom post types created with GD Custom Post Types and Taxonomies.

 * However, just as for inorganik and k3davis, the “send shortcode to editor” button
   in the shortcode editor is not working for me.

 * I have removed custom types and taxonomies and, when using standard posts and
   pages, the sidebar shortcode builder is working great. Just have to remember 
   to click in the correct text location before sending the shortcode to the editor.
