    Hi @ all!

    This is a very useful plugin and I use it at a multisite WordPress with blogs from volunteers all over the world. Especially the simple way how to use it is very good. But I think it really needs an update:

    – Automatically find the position

    – Link-fix (“Posted from .” = Location text mostly missing)

    – Global-Map-Tag with all posts
    E.G. http://tomsbigbox.com/implement-the-wordpress-geolocation-plugin/

    -…

    I would love to donate for this. There are so many people using this plugin and geolocation is implemented into the WordPress iOS(Android/…-Versions.

    What do the others think about this and is there someone who would update the plugin?!

    Best!

    I tested it and quickly found that I had too high expectations: automatically read and populated with GPS data from the (EXIF) uploaded image in Edit Post.

    I also found it very strange that it defaults to the geolocation of my computer and not the photo.

    I also totally agree! We need an update with some small new features like the mashup-map. And also different location output styles would be nice (e.g. display the coordinates instead of the address)

    I hope we will see some of these changes in the near future.

    Cheers!

    Also some options would be nice such as language choice for api
    -> http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false&language=de
    or editable text before echo of the Location instead of fixed text.

    It would also be nice to push the geolocation of the map into the html meta info of the post
    -> Example

    <meta name="geo.region" content="AU-NSW" />
    <meta name="geo.placename" content="Sydney" />
    <meta name="geo.position" content="-33.867487;151.20699" />
    <meta name="ICBM" content="-33.867487, 151.20699" />

    Hi,

    You’re not the only one to mention these meta.

    I’m curious to know who/what is reading them. Do you know that ?

    @franceimage: Search engines like Google read these geolocation metas.
    You could use these metas for a local search or a distance search around your location. Every search that is related to a geolocation can profit of this meta-tags you past to the metas of your blog-post.

    A study says that 25% of all searches are geolocated searches.

    I don’t think Google does that.

    A good reading here: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=79812

    I was hoping you would come with something that would change my mind about the uselessness of these meta 🙂

    I just found this plugin @ CodeCanyon: http://codecanyon.net/item/geolocation-plus-google-maps-places-autocomplete/1409062

    I guess it’s the same but it might be fixed and autocomplete is added. So what’s your opinion about that?!

    Hi Philipp,

    In my opinion, the plugin you mention does not offer a lot of features
    (not enough for a premium plugin).

    I think http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/geo-mashup/ or http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-geo offer much more for free.

    Could you share a link to your site to see what your needs are ?

    Cheers
