  • Resolved electrolund

First of, WOW, I love your plugin. File Gallery is just great. I was using Nextgen Gallery, which also is really wonderful. But for me, I was looking to make my entire blogging workflow simpler, and less cumbersome. So to finally have something like File Gallery make the native WordPress gallery features actually usable — it’s great. Nice work!

The only feature that File Gallery hasn’t been able to give me that I miss from Nextgen is EXIF metadata handling. Nextgen had a great ability to take the EXIF data from photos and apply them into the gallery output. For instance, you could take the EXIF title or description and put that into the photo’s caption field or description field.

Could this be possible with File Gallery?

@electrolund: take a look here for a similar question and a quick solution:

I guess it would be wise to implement EXIF-to-description by default, and have an option on the media settings page so users can switch it on/off.

I’ll put it on my todo list for v1.7.5.

And thank you for the nice comments, I’m glad you like the plugin 🙂

Thanks, I’m excited that this has been covered and resolved already! I agree, a nice checkbox for users is ideal on future releases.

I should have added that my current upload workflow looks like this:

    * On a Mac, using iPhoto, entering all my titles and descriptions
    * Exporting photos with the option of embedding title/description into EXIF
    * uploading said photos into WordPress

I prefer to have my source app (iPhoto) be the controlling source of that metadata, rather than enter all of it in the WordPress end. So, thanks again!
