    When I check this setting:

    FIDO Universal 2nd Factor (U2F)
Requires an HTTPS connection. Configure your security keys in the “Security Keys” section below.

And click “register new key,” my Yubikey 5 NFC green light begins flashing. But it times out and fails to establish a connection.

Is there something I’m not doing that is preventing this from working?

@richards1052 Is the site using HTTPS for the admin URLs? Could the device be already registered with the user? Could you please check the browser console for any error messages?

Is the U2F application enabled on the key?

For some reason, the key failed every time I tried and never seemed to establish a connection. But after logging out of my site, and then the next day logging back in, it worked. So I’m not sure what happened. But it appears the key is now working.

I have exactly the same issue with the previous Yubikey generation – I’m getting a Windows prompt to touch the key to generate the passphrase and then nothing happens in the plugin itself – only the “rolling wheel” keeps moving…

I’m definitely on full https + I have the wildcard SSL certificate in place, so no security flaws here. The console “security” tab confirms it.

The console reports no errors or issues.

I have the same issue. Key is blinking green. I have SSL and no error in console. Only I can see “U2F request timeout reached.” I have also disabled OTP and still no results.

@paszczak000 Which key, browser and operating system are you using? I’m unable to reproduce the issue with Yubikey Neo, Chrome 78 on MacOS Catalina.

Could it be that the key is already registered with the user account?

I have found a bug and error:

Refused to apply style from '/wp-admin/profile.php' because its MIME type ('text/html') is not a supported stylesheet MIME type, and strict MIME checking is enabled.

    Resolving this fix the problem.

I have the same problem here. Click register key, the Yubico blinks green then I recieve the message that U2F request timed out.

Im on a Lenovo T480s, Win 10 with Chrome Version 79.0.3945.130

    Yubico Yubikey 5NFC

Check if you ALL content is loaded by HTTPS not HTTP.

    How do I do that?

The “Requires an HTTPS connection” message is shown if the page isn’t served over HTTPS which is _required_ for the U2F to work.
