• I looked at the plugin page on the author’s site and here on WordPress.org without finding any direction.
I found the template page but should I create a page on my site first & what do I put there?
How do I link the page to Facebook?
I am usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out. I got Jainrain RPX Login working with FB, Twitter, LinkedIn & even PayPal but this one doesn’t give me any hint of where to go.
I am surely missing something critical here.

  • Once you have uploaded the plugin and activated it, go to the Facebook Tabs menu item on the Dashboard and click Add New.

I found the instructions on the page are pretty complete. It walks you through what to do and how to do it. Very explicit instructions are there for adding to Facebook page.

David has done a great job with this plugin having many updates since it was released. I’m not a programmer and I got a page up and running but still need to learn about how to accomplish the more involved pages I want.

I think maybe you’re being confused by the presence of a template.php file as part of the plugin distribution. You don’t actually install this as part of your theme. The plugin intercepts the normal template redirect process and substitutes this file dynamically for any posts of the type ‘fbtab’ – then exits. Your post winds up getting displayed by a very plain template with no navigation bar or sidebars. However, you can add CSS through the UI.

I have a bunch of working examples at http://www.facebook.com/carrcomm

I just installed the plugin but there is no Facebook tabs menu on the dashboard (left column). The plugin is active, but I don’t have the option to “add new” fbtab. Please help! I just asked 2 web people in my office and they didn’t know how to help.

    glesueur,

Sorry it’s taken me a few days to reply. I was traveling. I assume you’re running WordPress 3.0 or greater, correct? You should have seen an error message on install if not, but I’m checking anyway because the plugin wouldn’t work with an older version of WordPress.

Another issue could be that you’re not logged in as a user with editor rights or higher. Do you see the menu to edit page content? FB Tabs are treated as equivalent to pages for security purposes.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks David. I am an editor, but it is version 2.9.2. I didn’t get an error message and it says installed. I have another blog I can test this on that’s 3+ but need to have our web guy make me an admin. Will try again when this happens. Thanks for your help.
