  • I’ve tried a number of plugins which add a Facebook Like Box, but this plugin is the only one of the bunch which put a smile on my face! This plugin is awesome!!!

I was looking for a way to match the Facebook box to my theme with CSS. This plugin provided exactly what I needed. It lets you customize absolutely everything. I was able to match the fonts, colors, link styles, and control the spacing of every element to center everything perfectly! Here’s how your plugin looks on my website.

    Thank you so much!

  • I would like to simply change the text in this plug-in to white using the CSS editor built-in to the plug-in. I don’t see where it’s set to black by default; is there a line of code I can just add in?

This is a great question! I spent about half an hour trying to find the answer by experimenting and searching the web. Unfortunately, nothing I’ve tried will change the text color of the status updates. There are lots of tutorials on the web explaining how to customize your Facebook fan box with CSS, but none of them address this particular question.

If you do eventually find the answer, could you please post it here? Now you’ve made me curious! 🙂

P.S. In my original post, the text which I styled with CSS was the link text. I wanted to make the links in the fan box match the links on the rest of my website. You can do that with the CSS in this widget.

thank’s a lot for looking into it!

what I ended up doing was inserting

    color: white;

    directly beneath

    .fbConnectWidgetTopmost,.fan_box .full_widget .connect_top

I had to play around with placement of that. It didn’t change the status updates, but changed the entire box so it is now readable.

I don’t think there’s a way to change just the status update text without editing the actual plug-in

    Hi Greg,

Thanks for the update! Now that I see your website, it occurs to me that you might be better off taking a totally different approach.

The Facebook Like Box Social Plugin is available directly from Facebook:

It allows you to select a dark color scheme which has light text on a dark background. This would be a better match for the dark background of your site.

You can customize the plugin on the Facebook website and then generate the code you need. Copy the code and paste it into a text widget on your WordPress website. You can experiment with both the iframe and XFBML versions of the code to see which works better on your site. (The XFBML version seemed to work better on my site, but your mileage may vary.)

I think this is a better to solution to the real problem: how to match the like box color scheme to the color scheme on your whole site.

Do you want to try this and tell us if it works better for you?

    Best wishes,

P.S. I don’t see any way to change the color scheme with the Facebook Fanbox (with CSS Support) plugin for WordPress. That’s odd, because the screenshot shows the dark color scheme, but we’re getting the light color scheme!

When I was initially trying out various facebook widgets I pretty much stopped looking once I found one that worked well for the site. I haven’t tried the official facebook one you mentioned and I will definitely try it. Thanks again for the help I will post back once I try it
