How to translate the names ‘Events’, ‘Locations’ and so forth? I have been able to translate everything else that is visible to the users through the powerful Formats and by renaming the Pages, but these main names are not translated. When a user of a Finnish site wants to add a new (in Finnish: uusi) Location (Paikka), they can’t add an “Uusi > Paikka”, but “Uusi > Location” instead.

Even on an English site a renaming option would be useful to create niche sites that speak the proper lingo. For example a band might want to speak to their audience about Gigs instead of Events and football association might want only to list Fields instead of Locations.

  • At the same time it would be useful to have the ability to translate the admin bar items, and possibly make use of the readymade WP translations. In the above example “Edit Location” and “View Location” should be “Muokkaa paikkaa” and “Näytä paikka”.

You can add translations and update the Finnish po file. If you want to contribute to translations, please read this – http://wp-events-plugin.com/documentation/translating/

If you send over updated translations I’ll gladly update them.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

What about having the option to rename those yourself in the plugin settings? Even in the same language different sites may want to use different names. This option would come in handy.

Yes, that’s a limitation I’m aware of and hope to implement this so it also works with multilingual plugins.

Great! Hopefully a near-future update will let site admins rename “Location”, “Event”, “Edit Location/Event” and “View Location/Event” in the plugin settings.

I believe this might not need multilinguality support in its first iteration. Multilingual sites would use the plugin as it is now, and single-language sites would choose between using as it is now or using a renamed version. Some would be better off with this change while nobody would be worse off.

Then a later version could add translatability to the admin-renamed strings for users of multilingual plugins.

There’s a site to be released soon that would appear more professional if these strings could be manually renamed, so I’d be glad to help testing this functionality when you have a beta.

http://wp-events-plugin.com/documentation/translating/ step 2 would benefit from clarification, from:

Go to File -> New catalog from POT file

    to

Go to File -> New catalog from POT file and select the file includes/lang/events-manager.pot included in the plugin
