nowadays with apps it’s just like a gmail account.

try using the gmail settings given in the tip, and use your full email as your username.

thanks, have tried using the gmail settings, but not working

OK, seems to be that it is an issue with my host (bluehost) blocking smtp connections.

Solution seems to be something like this:

    http://blog.codelab.co.nz/2010/01/12/bluehost-wont-allow-gmail-smtp-connections/

Just to follow up, and for anyone else using Bluehost, and trying to configure the events confirmation to send from their own email address using SMTP:

Bluhost won’t accept SMTP connections from other applications, so the workaround is:

1 – set up an email account in your bluehost control panel with the same address as your email account that you want to use
2 – in the events plug in in email settings configure the SMTP host to be box***.bluehost.com (replace *** with your own box number given by lue host), use port 465, and add your email address and password

    Works like a dream!
