What are you seeing as not working? It is a pretty simple plugin that relies on the template using a basic search field similar to twentyten that is generally a theme’s default. So I would check that first.
Also, you should see a settings page if it is installed correctly.
It isn’t a widget. It just enhances the search box in themes to allow you to change the default text for the place holder (ads a placeholder if theme doesn’t already have one), and makes the placeholder work in IE.
When you install it, it should start to show “Search…” in your search box on the front end of your site, and there will be a settings page called “Enhanced Search Box” that lets you customize that text from “Search…” to whatever you want.
