What are you seeing as not working? It is a pretty simple plugin that relies on the template using a basic search field similar to twentyten that is generally a theme's default. So I would check that first.

Also, you should see a settings page if it is installed correctly.

Hmmm. It does, however, not work with twentyeleven since it uses a placeholder. Looking at that now.

    K. I just completely rebuilt it. This was a planned revision that got put off. It now uses a placeholder attribute instead of the old value attribute. Updated to html5.

Most importantly, it adds support for IE, so if you activate it, it makes the default text work in IE for you theme, where it was blank before.

I the theme doesn't use a placeholder yet, it adds one with javascript.

Please let me know if it works better for you now.

Is this supposed to be a widget? I am not sure how to make the search bar show up anywhere.

It isn't a widget. It just enhances the search box in themes to allow you to change the default text for the place holder (ads a placeholder if theme doesn't already have one), and makes the placeholder work in IE.

If your theme is using javascript to control search text, it might override this plugin.

When you install it, it should start to show "Search..." in your search box on the front end of your site, and there will be a settings page called "Enhanced Search Box" that lets you customize that text from "Search..." to whatever you want.

It is a pretty simple plugin.
