[Plugin: Editorial Calendar] Use Calendar as a Dashboard Widget

    I was thinking it would be cool to extend the plugin so it can be used as a Dashboard Widget. My quick attempt to do so resulted in a lot of ajax errors, which is to be expected.

    This is more a feature request than anything, do you think you could add hooks to be able to pull it in as a Dashboard Widget? Or add that functionality right to the plugin?

    Thanks for the great plugin!

    Thanks for using the Editorial Calendar. We’ve talked about making it a dashboard widget before, but we always run into a space issue. Dashboard widgets only get a small portion of the screen and the calendar really needs a large area.

    Did you have any ideas for reducing the size of the calendar? How would you see all of your posts in such a small area?

    Thanks,
    Zack

    I was thinking you could slim it down to fewer days. Maybe only show a 3×2 grid of days. 1 previous day, current day, and 4 future days. Have buttons to go backward and forward like you already have. I’ll put together a mock-up if you’d like.

    If you’re up for making a mockup we’d love to see it. It seems like a big change, but we might go in that direction.

    Thanks,

    Made a quick mockup:
    Default Calendar View
    New Post View

    The next and previous buttons would go by days instead of monthly. Clicking Edit would still take you to the actual post and leave the dashboard.

    Pulling in via a small plugin with:

    function calendar_to_dashboard(){
    global $edcal;
    wp_add_dashboard_widget('dashboard_widget', 'Calender of Posts', array( $edcal,'edcal_list_admin'));
    }
    add_action('wp_dashboard_setup', 'calendar_to_dashboard' );

    Thanks for the awesome mockups. I’ll need to investigate the calendar code and see how feasible this would be.

    Thanks,
    Zack
