  • Hi Yemoonyah,

Here is a helpful section on the FAQs page:
    -> Browse To: http://lifeinthegrid.com/duplicator-faq/
    -> Find Section: “2. Installer”
-> See Question: “Why does browsing to the installer.php just show text/code or prompt to be downloaded?”

You might also contact GoDaddy and ask them why PHP pages are not serving up correctly…

Let me know if that helps!

It was not the installer.php page that showed the code but this page:
    http://langoncolombia.com/wp-admin/options-permalink.php

However, there seems to be a problem with the htaccess file. There was only one, not htaccess.orig AND htaccess. So I renamed the one that was there to htaccess.orig and created a new empty file called htaccess. Now I can at least log into the admin area but the frontend of the site does still does not show up.

I guess something is missing in .htaccess? I have no clue what goes in it, so left it empty.
What code do I have to add?

It’s actually just the home page that returns a blank page.
All the others work fine! See:
    http://langoncolombia.com
    http://langoncolombia.com/contact-us

You should be able to go back to your permalinks page and re-save the settings. This will automatically update the .htaccess which should then create the correct instructions in that file for your front-end to work.

If the .htaccess file stays empty then PHP doesn’t have the correct permissions to write to that file and you will have to contact GoDaddy and make sure the permission set is correct for that file. Also be sure its named .htaccess with the ‘dot’ in the front.

Let me know if that helps!

Yes, just did that. I think that’s what brought all the other pages back.
It’s just the homepage that just won’t show up.
Any thoughts what could cause that?

Thanks for the quick help on this. I really appreciate it!

    p.s .htaccess is named correctly

Now I logged out and it tells me there is a database connection error and I can’t log in again. When I browse to http://langoncolombia.com/wp-admin I get this error message:

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at gongora.db.9850647.hostedresource.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

I just checked and the details in in wp-config are correct.

The database could be on a separate server and is actually down. Not a big fan of Godaddy, so I’m not 100% of their architecture. You might checkout these threads.

    Thread 1
    Thread 2
    Thread 3

    Hope that helps!

I’m also not a big fan and would never host my own site with them. But it’s a client site so I will just have to deal with them. I called them and they can’t figure out what’s going on. They’ll get back to me as soon as they know more.
    Thanks for the help!

Ok, so they fixed the database issue but I still have a blank home page:

    http://langoncolombia.com/

fixed it! Yipee! There was a default.html in my root folder that I had to delete.

Awesome! Thanks for posting your solution back to the forums for others to see…

    Cheers!
