    Hi everybody,

I have huge problem: I accidentally deleted the mysql database from my site. I do have a duplicator package from yesterday.

My question: Can I use the database file in the duplicator package to simply import again into phpmyadmin for my site?

I have tried this, but the site looks entirely different. Going into the databasefile also shows that it is built up a little different than when I download a database file directly from phpmyadmin.

So the question more or less is: Is the database backup in the duplicator package modified somehow (to work with duplicator) or is it a regular database backup? If it has been modifed: Can I somehow get it into a regular database backup’s shape?

    Thanks a lot,
    Peter

  • Hey Peter,

It will depend on the plugin version, but with 0.3.1 and above the database.sql file that is in the package is your original database at the time the package was created. If you use phpmyadmin to import you might have to play around with the settings…

When you compare the phpmyadmin scripts you might see a difference, the thing to pay attention to are the insert statements. You might have to use a tool like beyond compare to compare the files and see if you can pin-point any differences that effect how the data was actually inserted into the database. Also if you can get back into the wp-admin it may be that you just need to re-save some of the theme/plugin settings…

    Hey lifeinthegrid,

thanks a lot for your answer!

When importing and then exporting the duplicator saved database in phpmyadmin – the database is brought into the regular phpmyadmin layout/structure automatically afterall.

The problem is the follwing: As you assumed, the theme settings were not restored. I was assured that they are saved in the database…but for some reason they are not restored (also not when using duplicator with the installer file and transfering the site to another domain).

I have contacted theme support to see if I can get the settings back somehow.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hey Peter,

Most likely it has to do with a serialized string. You can validate the data in question with a tool like the following:

    http://unserialize.net/serialize

You will probably just need to locate the value that is out of scope…

    Hope that helps!

No Problem… If you find out your solution please post it back to the forums for anyone else using the same theme…

    Thxs
