Do you know if the plugin can co-exist with WPMUDEV's Domain Mapping and Multi Domains plugins?

It would be super if it did.

    Hi there

I have to admit - I actually don't know. I'm going to release a new version this month and I'll look into this. Expect a version which does support the co-existence or a report ;)

I'd definitely be interested to know how this works out! Do you think you can post here as well?

I'd love to be able to let the folks at WPMUdev know that we have a WPMUdev friendly plugin out there :)

  5. This plugin looks awesome. I didn't even know it existed until Kimberly let me know. :)

Just to make sure, I suppose you're trying to achieve the following:

    WP Network with Domain Mapping
    - Company Blog 1 (www.company1.com)
    - Company Blog 2 (www.company2.com, http://www.myproduct.com)
    -- Product Page/CPT (www.myproduct.com)
    - Company Blog 3 (www.company3.com)

Domain Mapping should map company1.com - company3.com to the blogs, and DMS yet another domain to a page or CPT inside one of these blogs. Am I correct?

    Hi everyone,

First of all, I'm quite excited about the interest everyone's showing! :)

I've just released DMS 1.3 which should be able to co-exist. I have tested it with the WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin, which works wonderfully with DMS 1.3 (map mycompany.com and myproduct.com to the MU site, where the user can map myproduct.com to a page or CPT).

I would love to test it with the WPMUDEV plugins, but I have to admit I only discovered WPMUDEV thanks to this thread and can currently not afford a membership (poor student).

If one of you could test it and give feedback on the matter, I'd really appreciate it though!

  10. Hey Rob.

Can you get in touch with us, mark it the attention of Tim so we can discuss compatibility. :)

I'm not sure about external linking policies here (rubbish memory) but if you use the contact form on our site it will come through to our email in box - http://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/

    Thanks! :)

    Well, here I am again.

With the lovely support of wpmudev I now have access to the plugins.
Unfortunately I was very busy this summer (Uni exams and holiday ;).

I'll finally look into the question and report back tonight/tomorrow. If it doesn't work, I'll try to get it working :)

It doesn't seem to work with multi-domains, I'll try to add support for it in 1.4 (might need quite some magic).

As for domain-mapping, I've got some issues running that plugin on my test platform right now ;) As soon as this works, I can check compatibility.

    I'll keep you up-to-date.

  14. Hopefully I can help get you sorted soon as possible, will call in Barry if we need him :)

Just sent you some additional info about the issue.

Unrelated to this plugin compatibility thread, but the underlying issue may relate to development aspects, so I just want to inject it into awareness as this development collaboration proceeds.

So, with the kind help of Kimberly and some voodo-magic I got the domain-mapping plugin up and running. Thanks Kimberly! :)

Firstly, I wish I could map two or more domains to a subsite (example.org, example.biz -> example.com/company) but Domain Mapping seems not to be developed for this purpose.

Anyhow, I can now confirm DMS 1.3 on WP 3.4.2 is working with Domain Mapping 3.0.8!

Say Domain Mapping redirects example.org -> example.com/company. There you can map example.org with DMS to a Page - which does work.

tbh, I can't see the purpose of this, as you could just set the homepage to a static page, which would achieve exactly the same with default WP functionality.

Or did I get anything wrong here?

I will look into the compatibility with Multi Domains and will hopefully release a new version.

  18. I saw a plugin that allows you to map any domain to any page on your site. So effectively you could map more than one domain to the site but the url would not stay consistent as you clicked around.

  19. Hey deniaz.

I think people wanted this is they want to have multiple drop pages perhaps, a good way to use up extra domains?

Anyway, you can map multiple domains with WPMUDEVs plugin, just not by default:

    domain-mapping.php line 31

    You can uncomment this:

    define('DOMAINMAPPING_ALLOWMULTI', 'yes');

Or you can put it in your wp-config.php and that will allow each site to have multiple domains mapped. This would mean if you add 3 domains then the site will work on those 3 I believe, so now 301 or similar. With that in mind Google may see it as duplicated content on different domains.

Is that what you were looking for?

    Take care.

What I would like for the Domain Mapping system to accomplish is that each of the following domains could be mapped to different PAGES or POSTS on the same subsite rather than all of the domains being mapped to the same subsite as currently happens with Domain Mapping.

    The primary susbsite is:

Domains mapped to the subsite are:

I would prefer that the domain mapping system allow us to map each of these to different PAGES or POSTS on the same subsite.

Right now on our multisite network, we could map each of these domains to individual subsites, but it is often overkill to configure an entire subsite per domain, when all we really need to appear at a domain is a single landing page or post.

I just wanted to comment that I would really love to have this functionality as well.

I want my clients to be able to use their own domain name for their home page, but also be able to use additional domain names for other pages (which will be niche landing pages) so they can use the domains in their offline marketing efforts (signs, newspaper ads, etc.). I want them to be able to handle the domain mapping without my involvement (such as changing vhost settings). I like that the WPMUdev plugin uses A records, which is something the client can handle.

    Hi Soo,

    So I've tried that.

On my MU-Playground I've created a new Subsite and User "panda" and used the Domain Mapping Plugin to point panda.com, panda.org, panda.net and panda.info to the subsite mu-playground.com/panda. Then I've created two WP Pages "Panda Info" and "Panda Net". In the DMS Options I mapped panda.info to the page "Panda Info" and panda.net to "Pande Net".

This works very well for me. Requesting panda.com and panda.org serves me the Subsite-Homepage, panda.info the Info-Page and panda.net the "Panda net"-Page.

If this is not what you want, I'm sure if I understand your needs correctly :)

    Domain Mapping maps panda.com, panda.org, panda.info and panda.net to the Panda-Subsite

DMS then maps panda.net and panda.info to their respective WP Pages, but doesn't touch panda.com and panda.org.

Actually, that's exactly what I was trying to do but it didn't seem to work when I tried it. I just tried it again and it worked perfectly. So I don't have any idea why it didn't work the first time, but now it does appear to be working perfectly. That's awesome!

I guess your questions has been answered now, right? :)
Can I mark the issue as resolved?

Its almost there, but not quite. Here's a usage scenario where its not working:

Multisite Network is created at mu-playground.com

The domain fish-playground.com should point to page mu-playground.com/fish/

When I add the domain fish-playground.com into the Domain Mapping plugin, mu-playground.com redirects to fish-playground.com.

When I add the redirect rule into DMS plugin, then the sites get stuck in a redirect loop.

... Not sure what steps to take next. But really, the thread is nearly resolved.
