Support » Requests and Feedback » [Plugin: Custom Taxonomies] Excellent idea, but only 0.9, not 1.0

  • This is an excellent idea. If anyone uses not just plain tags and categories, but rather needs sets of semantic entities (such as persons, locations, companies, products) that may even have been extracted from blog postings automatically, this is the way to go.

However, in my opinion this is not yet a 1.0 version as some essential components are missing:

    • display widgets for entities (lists/trees or tag clouds)
    • merged display widgets with categories and tags
    • migration tool for the conversion of tags into such entities and possibly back
    • integration into search

    Keep going! 🙂

  • Thanks for the great feedback. I’m working on the display widgets, and the migration tool is an interesting idea…I’ll keep it in mind once the plugin is more developed. As for the search integration, there seem to be a couple of bugs with the way taxonomy search is handled (right now it displays drafts in a way that can’t be disabled). I’m looking into solutions though, and hopefully something solid will come up.

Thanks again for the feedback, I’m glad you’re enjoying it thus far.

I was trying to develop this very same plugin but had to stop development due to the problem of 24 hours not being enough for a day.

One question: How can I create permalinks such as domain.tld/custax1/custax2/post_name? This was my main concern with my own plugin too, and I could never get around to figuring out how to do it.

And a bug report: No matter what the WordPress installations collation is, the plugin creates latin1_swedish_ci table, and if I use special Turkish characters, they are shown as question marks. I had to change every collation by hand to utf8_general_ci to get it to work properly.

Thanks for the bug report, it’s fixed and committed for the next release.

As for the permalinks, I’m looking into it, and I think there’s a way to do it, but I need to read through a decent chunk of source code (since the documentation leaves a bit to be desired).
