I feel absolutely stoooopid that the instructions "Where "ENTER_DATE_HERE" uses PHP's strtotime function and will parse about any English textual datetime description." mean. Especially when I go to the link provided it might as well be in Dwarvish.

I would like my site's users to add their own countdown or countup timer to their profiles or pages. ... and I have to be able to explain how to add it in a simple way.

"Time since my birth: [fergcorp_cdt_single date="ENTER_DATE_HERE"]" and I can't be sending people to the php strptime nonsense.

So, if I was born on July 28, 1962 how would I enter this code to show how many weeks, days, minutes and seconds since I was born?

Pardon me for being bitter but I'm

The key phrase you want to focus on is "will parse about any English textual datetime description." That, essentially, means that you can write it in just about anyway that makes sense and the system will figure it out.

Thus, if you wanted to count down to your birthday, you would enter:

    [fergcorp_cdt_single date="July 28, 1962"]
