Hiya, I’ve searched and searched and couldn’t find an answer either here at WordPress or on the CivicUK site, so decided to ask here. When I install Cookie Control on my site it doesn’t catch the cookies set by Jetpack, which are basically all the cookies I have. As I’m in the Netherlands and we’re required by law to get explicit consent before adding anything I really need to find a solution. Am I doing something wrong? Is it because there a conflict between the new WP version and the current version of Cookie Control? Should I ask the Jetpack-developers?
Cookie Control provides a set of functions and call backs which you need to use in order to “catch” cookies set by other scripts. This is as it should be. To automatically “catch” all cookies is impossible – what really happens is that you allow them to get set, and then globally delete cookies after the event, which isn’t that great. Later versions of Cookie Control (which haven’t made it to the WP plugin yet I’m afraid) support this method too, but from a technical point of view we see it as a fall-back rather than the right way of doing things…
In other words, you need to add some code to your JetPack scripts so they’re only setting cookies when the Cookie Control allow cookies cookie is set.
That does help, though I got so confused by the Jetpack codes, I decided to switch to Google Analytics, as that’s incorporated into Cookie Control. Now to figure out the social sharing buttons and I’m all set again 😉
Thank you for your time and help!
