I am using the content-aware sidebars with another plug-in that creates its own custom category for a directory style listing.
When I create a new sidebar that selects a specific landing page and options including:
– expsosure = singular and archive
– hangle = replace
– host sidebar = primary sidebar (assigned by theme)
– merge positin = top
and I select just the categories I want to be visible in the sidebar
and I place my WpDirectoryListing plug-in into the widget for the newly created sidebar, (plus I select an option that says only list in drop down for any category that has an active listing) I am dumbfounded to find that the results continue to show the ENTIRE directory category list.
Is there something else I need to do force the “do not show the categories that I have not selected” or some “important” extra coding?
I see so much potential for this plug in and was excited when someone turned me on to it as I have been relying on widget logic in other applications.
I can give you access to the site wp-admin to see what I am describing it it helps by email.
Thanks for your feedback and kind words of the plugin.
If I am correct, I think that you might have misunderstood the features of this plugin. When you select specific categories for a content aware sidebar, it is the sidebar itself – and its widgets – that will be visible with only those categories (i.e. on the category archive page and on singulars containing the category), and not the widgets that will be changed to show only content from these categories. In fact, the plugin does not manipulate with widgets in any way.
I do not know the plugin you refer to, but if you want its widget to show only certain categories, you might need to contact the author of that plugin, as it is out of the scope of Content Aware Sidebars. Or if you can link to the plugin, I’ll see if I have time to code what you need and send it to your email.
