Hi sndo3, from some research, it appears that Contact Form 7 uses the php mail function to send emails (rather than using SMTP Authentication – an email address and a password).
If your contact form has never worked for you, I would suggest contacting your host to find out whether they have the php mail() function enabled or not, as not all web hosts have this function enabled.

Hi sndo3. The php mail() function I was referring to is when php on your server sends email out. You don’t have to enter a username or password, the email is just sent out.
On the flip side, SMTP authentication is basically supplying a username (email address) and password before sending any emails out. Because you can have some major problems with SPAM and the php mail() function, many hosts (to be on the safe side) will require that you use SMTP authentication when sending email from their servers.

Hi sndo3. I would suggest using Contact Form 7. It’s quite easy to use, and with over 5 MILLION downloads a 4/5 stars out of 1300 ratings, I would say it is definitely one of the better choices.

phpBB is a very popular forum. A site I run now uses it, and it does a really good job. I would suggest searching WordPress plugins for phpBB, you should find some good info.
As far as chat plugins, I’ve never used a chat feature for WordPress. I’ve tested a few live chat programs (driven by php / MySQL), but honestly I’ve never seen a good / free live chat solution.

Are you still having this issue? I assume you mean it did not send the email (vs collect)?
Did you end up going with the SMTP plugin? Are you getting any error messages?
Many times, when sending email from a server, you’ll want to use “localhost” without quotes as the smtp host. You would then want to use a valid email address (full email address and all lowercase) as the username and then the email’s password as the password. This does vary from host to host, so you may need to contact your hosting company for further assistance.

I have installed Contact Form 7 on 3 websites. it does not work on any of them. I have the latest versions of Word Press and Contact Form 7, what more could I do? I am prepared to pay for assistance in resolving this. Is there any support available for this plugin. Else can any one recommend a really, really simple Contact Form that works?

Well, Honestly to me CF7 is the best contact form plugin, but there’s an alternative with high ratings and number of downloads i never try– here’s the link http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/si-contact-form/ and yes another i used is http://www.deliciousdays.com/cforms-plugin/– it’s also a good one
