• So I used the Change WP URL plugin to switch a clients large site from a development sub-directory (examle.com/wordpress) to its new home, example.com.

I followed the instructions exactly as they said. When I checked the new url the homepage came up, but I cannot link to any of the other pages. I checked that all other urls were updated on the back end, and they were, But I cannot access them even by typing in that pages url. I get the following error message:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please let me know what I can do to access all the other pages. Hopefully I can fix this before the client notices :/

    Thanks.

Well, hours more research and tinkering but no luck. And alas the client did notice… Now to fix it before their site is inoperable for too long.

I came across this on the Moving WordPress tutorial and was wondering if my permalinks might have something to do with it?

    10. If you are using Permalinks, go to the Administration > Settings > Permalinks panel and update your Permalink structure to your .htaccess file, which should be in the same directory as the main index.php file.

I don’t know what it means by “updating the Permalink structure to your .htaccess file”? What about the .htaccess file do I restructure it too? So ambiguous…

This may not even be the issue but I’m grasping at straws. Help… Anyone?

Ok, huh? I just checked the site again… and after about 6 hours of utter failure it decided to work!? I wonder if it just needed half a day to register the change???

I will leave this post open and check back tomorrow to see if everything is still kosher with the site. And if so we can consider this case closed.
