Here’s the issue I am running into:

I FTP 50 photos into the /originals/ folder, scan it, and only about half of them show up in the library. It looks like it has to do with the file size, there’s a cutoff at 2 GB or so?

Anyways – what I’ve got to do is this: download the file from the server (where I just put it via FTP) and then manually upload it again using the “add new” function of catablog. What would be awesome is this: instead of having to upload a file, I could choose instead to pick the file from the /originals/ folder!!!

    Thanks
    Chris

Are you uploading individual images that are 2 gigabytes in files size, wow! Can you give me example filenames for files that are not read? Do they contain special characters? different file extensions? The filenames on the server is important, not the filename on your local computer.

Also, are there any error messages reported when you rescan the originals folder?

Also I am curious why you would need to redownload a file you just uploaded?

    I’m uploading hi-res photos …

Sample filenames that I tried last night are Test.jpg and Test.png – so there’s definitely nothing special about the filenames or extensions. Yes, I do get error messages (both scanning the originals folder – somthing about “missing ;” and when I regen – “SyntaxError: Syntax error” – although this is for ALL files).

I have to redownload the pictures because when I go and edit an item by clicking on the “Replace Main Image” link I am asked to upload a file – I can’t select a file already in the originals folder 🙁 🙁

    Thanks for your help!

I am confused about your decision to use 2GB image files for the internet, do you mean 2MB? I routinely use 5 or 6 MB files, and know of digital SLRs that create jpeg files that are maybe 20MB, but 2GB?

I think the GB was a typo, am I right?

    Haha, you’re absolutely correct.

Files are 600kB to about 6 MB each .. total size is over 2 GB but that doesn’t matter.

All this talk of large pictures got me wondering if the quality was that important.

I installed an Image Resizer from http://imageresizer.codeplex.com, which is nice because it works from your Windows Explorer … and shrunk the 5-6MB photos to 200-300kB each. On the screen, you really and truly can’t tell.

    BOOM

All issues with catablog are gone (and much quicker to upload via FTP) – errors while regenerating gone as well.

Crazy cool, my guess is it’s a server memory issue, but I’m unsure. When I have some time I will look into better “Out of Memory” error reporting.
