I have 900 businesses i’m importing into the directory. This is for a state-wide gardening supply directory.
I have some business that fall under multiple categories.

I’ve set up all of the categories under “Directory Categories”
I’ve created a field called “Categories” under manage form fields.
I’ve populated the categories in my CSV file. Ie.. (Growers, Suppliers, Contractors, etc.)
and separated the values with a comma.

So every business may have anywhere from 1 to 6 different categories that they fall into.

The problem is, that on import, it is not separating the businesses into the different categories. It’s creating a NEW category with all the the categories as a whole.

So instead of “company ABC” showing up under, (Growers AND Suppliers AND Contractors)… Like This:

    Growers (1)
    Suppliers (1)
    Contractors (1)

instead, it’s listing them under a new category called (Growers, Suppliers, Contractors)

    Growers (0)
    Suppliers (0)
    Contractors (0)
    Growers, Suppliers, Contractors (1)

Is there a way to fix this, am I doing something wrong?

    Hi Wally,

You can’t import listings under multiple categories, but you can associate them to multiple categories AFTER you’ve finished the import. You need to import them under a single category and then fix the associations afterward manually. The CSV import doesn’t handle multiple categories at this time.

Was this ever resolved? We are running into the exact same issue with our imports, but we do see the “Category Separator (required)”. We’d like to assign them to the a category structure like:

    Country-> City

Manually, this works fine, but we can’t figure out how to do this via the CSV import.

Yes, the CSV file supports now. The category separator is how you split the field that has categories listed in it.

What version of BD are you running?
Have you tried the import with categories using that format?
    What happened?
Can you show me an example file that demonstrates the problem?
Did you start with the sample CSV file provided under CSV Import?
