[resolved] Failed Plugin Upgrade (6 posts)

    Performed upgrade of plugin for BusinessDirectory and it failed. I am getting the error message β€œAn automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.” The Business Directory plugin was also removed. When I try to re-install I get the message that the plugin directory all ready exists. How do I resolve this and retain the work I have put into creating my business directory?

    Hi lionsofga18a,

    Not sure why it failed on you. Sorry for the hassles here.

    To install the new version and preserve your existing directory, do this.

    Manually download the plugin from WordPress.org
    Unpack the ZIP file you received
    Using FTP or SCP, upload the entire business-directory-plugin directory you just unpacked to wp-content/plugins.
    (There should not be a business-directory-plugin directory in there when you do. If there is, delete it first (it won't break anything))

    After that, activate the plugin on your WP Admin Plugins panel. You should now be updated.

    I did what you suggested and I am not see the business directory plugin in the plugin list to activate.

    When you uploaded the plugin, is there a directory under wp-content/plugins/ called business-directory-plugin, now that you're done?

    If not, remove what you uploaded and then do this:

    - Create the directory business-directory-plugin
    - Upload the files above into that directory
    - Refresh your admin panel
    - See if it's visible under Plugins then.

    Good news - I can now see my business directory list and the categories.

    New problem - I cannot view a listing. It just goes into an endless loop.

    It may be part of the bug we just fixed--but I'd like to be sure. Can you send me your site's admin credentials so we can verify if the bug is new or fixed?
