  • Hi iam new to Buddypress and i download and install the bp groupblog, and follow the instruction to move the themes , i can see the themes, but i already have a custom wordpress theme install and running, if i activate the bp group theme it will change my custom theme? ( i wont even try because mine is to customize and may loose settings”) for the one provided with this plugin? is a way to integrate this to my existing theme or to the blog area only, or taxonomy?

    Thank you for your help.

  • If you are using Groupblog, then you have associated a group with a blog.

You may use any current theme for the blog, and it’ll work fine. If you want the blog to *look like* the Buddypress group, then you would active the Groupblog theme for that blog, and then tweak.

If you have a custom theme for the blogs and you like it, there is no need to use a Groupblog theme.

    Does that help?

Just to clarify this discussion a *little*. Can a Groupblog look like a WordPress theme, not just the Buddypress child theme?

I installed this once and found the Groupblog concept looked nothing like my main WordPress theme, but rather just looked like a list of post inside the Buddypress tab.

I want a Groupblog that’s more akin to adding users on a main site. However I love the functionality of Groupblog but not the look.

    There is a big difference!

Sure. From my use of the plugin, you can: either …

    – Use the Groupblog theme to make the blog take on the look of BuddyPress, integrated underneath the “Blog” tab

    … or …

    – Use any theme for the blog. Then, clicking on the “Blog” link takes you to the blog *as you’ve themed it*.

With a child theme of either option, you can style as you wish.

    Try it out.

    Does that help?

Your advice was helpful. I took another gander at 1.7.1 of this plugin and it works like you said it would. Just did not see the settings options in the admin area that let you select the default setup. So I was just getting the buddypress blog instead of a regular blog layout.

    It works great for either.
