ZipList Recipe Plugin
Plugin Breaks the editor and no toolbar (33 posts)

    In version 3.9 the Ziplist plugin breaks the editor and no toolbars are shown after the ziplist knife and fork icon. Can't change from Visual to text editor either. If I disable the plugin the editor works again showing all the toolbars. This is in the backend of wordpress.

    It looks to be an issue with the upgrade of TinyMCE from 3.x to 4.0

    I really hope this is resolved soon. For me deactivating the plugin isn't an option since my site is a food blog! Ugh! However, with it activated I cannot make any new posts. Until this is fixed the only option I can think of is to have my host restore to a backup from before I updated. Does anyone know a better way??

    @proshapefitness you could deactivate it to work on posts and then reactivate when you're done. So the recipes would only be down a short time. Maybe compose in a plain text editor so that you have it deactivated the shortest time possible?

    @NewSeasonDesign that's another option I hadn't thought of! I actually just got off the phone with bluehost and had them restore to a version from this AM before I had updated. For now, I'm just going to work off the old version of wordpress. Hopefully ZipList will issue a fix soon so we can update! I sent them email btw, so I'll post their answer in here when I get a response.

    After we disable the plugin, we are still unable to link text or images. What a train wreck! This needs to get updated ASAP! We can't create content unless it's disabled, but if it's disabled, our readers can't see all the recipes!

    For now I ended up deleting lines 462-941 from zlrecipe.php so that the plugin doesn't break the editor but still displays the recipes on the site. Not even close to a fix since you can't edit or add a recipe in the editor but better than disabling the plugin all together.

    UPDATE: even removing all those lines, inserting images does not work unless I disable the plugin.

    Good morning. As you know, WordPress's most recent update to 3.9 has caused problems for the ZipList Recipe Plugin. We apologize for the inconvenience this caused you and your readers. Note, that we are head down, working hard to resolve this as quickly as possible. We will let you know when we've reached a resolution.

    Hello,
    I am having the exact same issue - if I deactivate the plugin, I can edit/add new posts. BUT, that is not an option for me, since I have a food blog and this plugin is absolutely necessary. Hoping for a quick resolution! Following this thread....

    The following when added as a plugin or in your functions.php file will stop the TinyMCE portion of ZipList from loading while the developer sorts out the issues:

    add_action( 'init', 'fys_remove_zlist_tinymce', 11 );
    function fys_remove_zlist_tinymce() {
            remove_filter('mce_external_plugins', 'amd_zlrecipe_tinymce_plugin');
    }

    Having the same problem.
    Question: shouldn't you have changed the TinyMCE for WP-edit?
    I did, because that was the advice for WP 3.9.1

    geurvanmaillard, it is a very important advice for whom is using these plugins.
    I do not have none of the two and have the problem.
    Hope in a quick solution from the ZipList support team

    Jeremy:
    The workaround adding the action (added to my functions.php) makes it possible to edit new posts; I tried adding a new recipe. That doesn't work, but at least I can add other posts, and display already recreated recipes.

    Thanks

    Thank you - I am using Jeremy's workaround for now and it's doing the job.

    Update for ZipList Partners: We are still working hard and are hopeful that we will have a new release very soon. In the meanwhile, please send us an email at partners@ziplist.com and we can provide you with a temporary patch fix. For now, you will not be able to edit your ZipList recipes but you will be able to display existing recipes and edit posts. Again, thanks for your patience and we hope to have a lasting fix, shortly.

    Easy Recipe say they can now process Ziplist posts. Does anyone know if it actually works?

    I would recommend downgrading WordPress to 3.8 or 3.7 instead. I just did that. Was having the exact same problem with Ziplist messing up the editor. I figured 3 different options to fix things:

    1) I emailed Ziplist and they sent over the patch that they have. that fixes the editor but doesn't allow you to edit the recipes using the plugin. Didn't like that option too much but it was a last resort

    2) Get the Easy Recipe plugin. It's supposedly a great plugin and very easy to use and customizable and also nice looking. It's also recently been upgraded to supporting using Ziplist recipes with no extra work. Check out the description here: http://www.orgasmicchef.com/easyrecipe-wordpress-plugin/ziplist-users-can-use-easyrecipe-plus-seamlessly-no-converting/
    Only downside is that it's $45 to buy. Something worth buying down the road for me.

    3) Since everything was working great for me prior to updating wordpress to 3.9, I just downgraded back to that point. If you contact your webhost (BlueHost in my case) and have them restore the WordPress software (not the database, otherwise you will lose your most recent posts), you'll be good to go. I did that. took about 15 mins on the phone and they were awesome. Now it's back to an older version and everything works just perfect.

    I'll leave it like this until Ziplist has found a fix for the issue with 3.9.

    @littlespicejar

    We think EasyRecipe is a great plugin too. But we're biased - we wrote it :)

    And the good news is it's only $24.95, not $45!

    Great news! The ZipList Plugin, version 2.4, is now available and fully compatible with the WordPress 3.9 Update: http://wordpress.org/plugins/ziplist-recipe-plugin/. Feel free to upgrade from WordPress at any time.

    I upgraded to Ziplist version 2.4 but it still breaks my editor. I have emptied the cache too. Any help?
