Recently I noticed that articles on my site displaying on Google’s search results are showing their Breadcrumbs NavXT links instead of their URL under their title on Google.

Is this a recent change to the plugin or Google’s way of grabbing data? Is it better or worse?

I feel like it’s actually worse for my site since the breadcrumbs are just generic categories and other sites that have the exact keyword still in their URLs displaying on Google are showing up above me on Google whereas I used to show up above them. Can this be switched back to display just the URL for Google?

It’s not exactly the plugin doing it. Google does it by itself, as it is able to determine what is a breadcrumb trail and what isn’t. Most people want that result and go out of their way to make it “easier” for Google to pick up on them (see breadcrumb microformats).

The real solution is to have a properly (logically) organized site and stop worrying about keywords and what many call SEO (what most are doing is SEG, they’re trying to game the search engines not optimize for them). As always, content is king, and great content will trump SEO (that is the goal of Google and the other search providers).
