Plugin: best for subscribers

Is there any (free) plugin that allows someone to subscribe to a blog and choose which categories they do/don’t receive? I’ve seen some suggestions of creating RSS feeds for each category, but this seems like a fairly convoluted route to go down. I did try installing the Post Notification plugin, which advertises this feature, but obviously as it hasn’t been updated it no longer seems to be compatible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
