[Plugin: bbPress2 BBCode] Why BuddyPress tag included?

Hi sorry yes. It does in fact detect if buddypress is enabled for the purpose of the [quote=quote_author]xxx[/quote] tag. In the case where buddypress is installed and quote_author matches the login name of a user, the html the tag renders has the name link to their buddypress profile.

Actually, I had intended this plugin work with the group forums and buddypress activity updates, but I hadn’t tested them yet so hadn’t realised they weren’t active. I’ll look into adding support for them in the next update as I actually need consistent support for these tags across buddypress, bbpress and blogs/comments.

I’ve just updated the plugin. From 1.3 onwards, the codes are also applied to buddypress activity and group forum posts.

I’ve also updated the shortcode whitelist plugin to do the same, so that you don’t need to expose unsafe shortcodes to all your forum users in order to use this. Again full buddypress support from 1.3 onwards.

This is a great update from you, Anton. Thank you.

I just want to be honest with plugins’ users. There are lots of plugins here in the repo that do NOT do anything with BuddyPress – but have ‘buddypress’ tag in readme. This is not fair to use the popularity of BP to increase own download counts.

That also would be perfect to have some description in FAQ or in main section for BuddyPress users (imo).

    Good job.

I’ve updated the main description to say that it applies to buddypress activity and group forums. I should have done that before, but I wanted to get the update out quickly so I forgot.

I understand your desire for plugins to have appropriate tags. As a wordpress/buddypress/bbpress user myself I want them appropriately labelled myself. I certainly don’t intend or desire to add to the madness. I did genuinely only add the buddypress tag once I added the profile link from the quote tag. Perhaps though when that was the only way the plugin supported buddypress the tag was misleading.

On the other hand the wordpress API is so cool it was easy enough to add buddypress support with only two extra lines of code… 🙂

Great work, I really like this plugin. One thing to point out, when using the quote code, the link of the username actually links to the ugly URL like ?bbp_user=1 instead of what I have set in the forum setting like xxx/users/username/. Not tested in BP.

@milohuang Thanks for the heads up, I’ll have a look at that problem when I get a chance, just got back from some travels, so sorry for late reply.

That will be lovely! Mentioned your plugin in my post, cheers.
