Its great to see that you took over the development of this plug-in.
    Thank you!

Sadly I as a bit disappointed when I saw that you removed many features in the never versions.
The old version (0.4.5) worked fine for me. Also I liked all the features and options it had.

In the new version I miss to be able to set different intervals for files and database. I do not want to backup the files every day if only minor changes (posts/pages) get done. For me the weekly file and daily sql backup was exactly the right thing. Maybe you get back to that sometimes?
Also it might be difficult for some users to set the options in a config file instead of using the old admin pages.

In any way, thanks for you work. I will keep checking this plug-in.

Thanks for sharing your ideas. I am planning on bringing back the ability to run separate schedules for files and database.

Using constants for the options is specifically to hide the complexity from novice users.

    Tom,

I love the old version (4.5) and am presently using it on a half dozen of my sites. I updated to the new version and several of my sites and to be honest find it confusing. I’m not a “code smart” person. The old version allows me to have backups mailed to me directly which I find reassureing. But what I miss most, and perhaps just don’t understand how to do with the new version is “restore”. In the past when building a new site, I frequently used the restore feature on the old version. It allowed me to quickly “roll back” to an error free site and try again.

Could you tell a dummy how to restore with the new version? Or, perhaps if that feature isn’t easy to understand with the new version, how can I get a copy of the old version to reinstall? If I new which files to copy from an existing version I could perhaps give that a try as I have the 4.5 version on several of my sites now.

I would appreciate any help you could give me.

You can download older versions from here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/backupwordpress/download/
Take the one with 0.4.5 and store it on your PC.
Now, in your wordpress go to the plugins administration and choose installation. Instead searching in the online database, you can upload your downloaded file.

    caco3,

Thanks a ton. I will stay on top of the new versions and update when I think I’m ready to handle it. In the meantime, the 0.4.5 version fits my needs to a “T”.

    Hi Kitshay,

Many thanks for your feedback, it really is so useful for me to know how people use the plugin and which features they would like to see, I know it was a drastic move removing so much of the functionality in the new version, however as the new developer I really wanted to strip back a lot of the non-essential functionality and focus on making the core function (backing up) as robust as possible.

I am planning on bringing some of the features from BackUpWordPress 0.4.5 back in a future version once I have the actual backups themselves running as robustly as I’d like them to.

Thanks again for using the plugin and for sharing your experiences with it.
