Hi there, I really like your plug-in. I am a RSS newbie, and I am not sure how to explain this question, but I will try my best.

I realize the plug-in is designed for feeds *with* images, but would it be possible to use it as a text slideshow (i.e. having an <image> element within the <channel> element that can be used as background for rotating content)?

In other words, I would like to have a background image, and display an item’s summary (description) in the transparency shown over the image. Then, having arrow links to move from item to item.

    Thank you!

    Hi Anayram,

    I’m glad you like the plug-in! 🙂

Your request sounds very similar to another already slated for version 1.1; The previous request was to add the ability to leave the title block on, instead of only when you hover the mouse over it.

Would that feature meet your requirements?

    Thanks!

I think that would help indeed 🙂

I am not sure why, but the rss file’s image and items are being pulled by the widget. This might be a problem with our file, though, but I’ve validated and tested it against other widgets / readers and I cannot find a problem. Could you please see if there is some information the widget needs that our file is not providing?

The test rss feed file is at:
    http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/%7Eorlando/wordpress/wp-content/themes/structure/weekly_full_wordpress_rss_copy.xml

    And our page at:
    http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/~orlando/wordpress/
    (widget in footer section)

    Thanks so much!

    Hi Anayram,

That test RSS feed didn’t contain any image files- I opened the source and saw that each RSS item contains only a Title, Link and Description, but a search for “img” returns no results.

As this is an image slide show, it parses a feed in search of image files to display. When an image file is not available, it skips over that entry. If no image files are available, it displays the error you’re presently seeing on your blog.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you!

    Hi Soleil,

Thanks a lot for your help.

Does the <image> element need to be inside the <item> element for it to work in the plugin?

There is an <image> element inside <channel> in the test feed I sent, but none inside <item>.

I checked the the NASA feed mentioned in other post (also with a single image in the <channel> element: http://www.nasa.gov/rss/image_of_the_day.rss ), but this feed does work for the plug in.

    Thanks!

    Hi Anayram,

The plug-in will specifically search for any of the XML compliant ways of including an image within an <item>; The NASA image of the day has the following within the item tag:
    <enclosure length="1234567" type="image/jpeg" url="http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/499145main_image_1800_516-387.jpg"/>

That is where the plug-in is pulling the image from.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks! 🙂
