I do not have the hardware either, just two laptops. I tried looking up mobile theme emulators and found this site: http://www.mobilephoneemulator.com/ and that's the one that I was going by.
My theme is supposed to be responsive and looks fine on some devices but on others the header image fade doesn't work or the image is just white space or nothing at all. So based on the results from this online emulator I used this plugin and used the basic 2012 theme as the default mobile theme - just black text on white space. Looks very basic and cheap and the portfolio images don't expand when you click on them (yet) but at least I now have something that registers on these mobile devices (which I hate because I can create the most detailed theme in the world and the mobile devices wreak havoc with them).
