Support » Plugins » [Plugin: AmR iCal Events List] Support for floating timezones

I recently installed the amr-ical plugin for use on a band site: I am unable to get the showtimes to appear properly. On the original calendar, all the zones are set as floating. I’ve tried entering tz=floating as a tag, but it didn’t seem to make a difference.

I have the timezone plugin installed, WP time set to America/Los Angeles.

Events are showing up 7 hours early. The url for the calendar is

Thanks so much for a great plugin. I’d been pulling out my hair with using RSS feeds for tourdates and this is a huge improvement.

  • Hi,
I had a quick look and made some comments here. It does look like something need to be done timezone wise – it has probably picked up your server timezone? or the UTC timezone – give me a day or so. However you may want to rethink floating timezones since it seems like your events are in different locations in possibly different timezones around the world. see the link above.

At the moment the plugin converts all dates to one timezone. Are you expecting that it will just show the time you have specified and NOT convert it to a timezone? In that case possibly a DATE WITH UTC TIME see is the way to go?

Actually what might make more sense for these “tour” type calendars which are all over (maybe?, and the plugin does NOT do this right now) is for each event to have it’s own timezone and for that to be clearly shown on the listing in it’s timezone?

    What are your thoughts ?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

I think I prefer the idea of a tour calendar not being sensitive to time zones – the only way to attend a concert (let’s ignore webcasts for the time being) is to be present at the venue, and even if someone is going to drive to a different time zone, I think it would still be easier to think of as “show at 8pm” as something always referencing the venue location.

Timezone sensitivity is a great idea for conference calls, but I prefer a simpler attitude for showtimes.

That being said, I’m still having some trouble getting the calendar to shift its time zone. I can set my WP site time to UTC, and that places the events at the proper time. Unfortunately, it messes up my post times.

One last question – What are the proper tz= suffixes to put in a post? I’d tried the following (among others):
    [iCal tz=UTC listtype=2 events=50 days=120]
This didn’t seem to effect the calendar.

Thanks again for all the help.

2.4.2 installed. I was able to set my site timezone back to Los Angeles time, and all events now show up at their original time, with no extras in the shortcode. Not sure if this is due to a new treatment of floating events or the new timezone fixes, but = It works as I was hoping it would!

Thanks for the incredibly quick response, both in this forum and in quick coding. Do you sleep?
