[Plugin: Advanced Text Widget] Suppress Title Option PLEASE!

  • I greatly desire an option to suppress the output of the title. More specifically what I’m doing is using this to put code and other things in the sidebars and these don’t have titles – so they’re hard to tell apart in the listings of widgets in the sidebars. If you could make it so we could title the widget to show the title ONLY in the sidebar and optionally NOT show the title on the front end that would be perfect.

    Thank you!

Do you mean show title only in the Widgets Admin dashboard, but not on the front-end output?

Exactly. I want some way to tell one use of Advanced Text Widget in a sidebar from each other. Having a title show there, but being able to NOT show it on the front-end output, means I can put custom code/etc there.

Kermit, I just released version 1.1.0 with the requested feature. See how it works for you.

    Max,

Gave it a thorough workout this weekend. It’s fantastic! (the spelling on suppress is off though…)

    Thanks!!

BTW…how hard would be be to replace the simple text entry with the Visual/HTML entry area? I’ve never seen a text widget offering that and it would be enormously cool.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for pointing out the typo, Kermit – 14hr days of computer work made me a dyslexic πŸ™‚ I have fixed that, but didn’t change the version, so it won’t prompt you to upgrade (unless you remove and reinstall the plugin.)

As for your other proposal – no, I’m not looking into implementing a Visual/HTML editor.

    Darn! πŸ™‚

This might be a bug report. I was trying to use   in the widget but while they’ll go in, once you refresh they’re actually stripped/or displayed a spaces and then go away on the next save.

    Can you fix this?

Also…what about replicating the “Automatically add paragraphs” option of the regular text widget?

    Kermit,

yea, I’m not sure why it removes html entity for spaces, but I added encoding on saving and decoding on output and it seems fixed the issue.

As for “automatically add paragraphs” feature – no I won’t add that one. There is a default Text Widget that come with WP – it has that feature and there is no point adding it to the ATW. The point of my plugin that it is plain raw input that supports plain raw text/html and executes PHP – no funny business like WYSIWYG or auto-paragraphs.

Beside, I think that WP should add the WYSIWYG editor to their own text widget and make it optional.

There appears to be a bug in the new release. When I edited one of the Advanced Text widgets in one of my sidebars and hit save – when the screen refreshed all the other Advanced Text Widgets had vanished.

Umm…. that sucks. For some reason I don’t see the same behavior on my own site – all of my previous widgets are still in tact even though I edited only 1 to test the new changes. I’ll play a bit more to see if I can replicate the problem. Try de-activating and re-activating the plugin.

Have you done anything beside downloading the new version? I’m just trying to figure out what could trigger the removal of all your ATW widgets. Can you still add new widgets and do they work?

Max. Seems like I can add them back. I don’t know what happened beyond that. I know for sure I wasn’t running the ‘Widget Eating Plugin’ that everyone is rating so highly. πŸ˜‰

Well crisis past for me. Thanks for trying to figure it out.

BTW…suppress is still misspelled though. ATW 1.1.1

Crap… I made changes to the plugin on my test site, which didn’t have the latest typo fix and copied it over the version that had the correct spelling. I uploaded new revision, but left the same version. It should update in a few minutes and if you want, you can download it manually, otherwise it won’t show as available update (because of the same version number).

Well… I found the bug again. When I paste the following text in and save it comes back with some of the special quote characters replaced with odd stuff. Then a refresh of the page shows all widgets erased.
