    It happened again, I have the last version of Advanced Custom Fields (from 8/21/2012) and the icons on top of the wysiwig fields have disappeared.

    This appears to be a bug that occurs if the user has the Disable the visual editor when writing option checked. It seems that when this option is checked the tinyMCE javascript is not loaded as the core WP does not need it.

    It's an annoying bug because I want clients to not see the visual editor in the main input area, but this bug prevents that.

    ACF needs to be updated to check if tinyMCE is loaded and if not to do so.

    Here is the error

    ReferenceError: Can't find variable: tinyMCE: input-actions.js line 700

    and here is the code:
    tinyMCE.execCommand("mceRemoveControl", false, $(this).attr('id'));

    This is happening to me as well but only when i'm writing a 'page'. If i'm writing a 'post' then the icons show fine. In 'page' mode, however, the icons appear in Visual mode but not in HTML mode. Also, the upload/insert media icon will not function.

    Aside from that the plugin works fine and is displaying the custom fields exactly how I want. I just can't use the editor to create a page and upload images. This is a problem because it's a client site and it's going to be hard to explain how to workaround the image problem.

    Any help on a cure for this is greatly appreciated.

    This just happened on one of our websites which has gone through 3-4 wordpress upgrades since v3.1.

    Clicking "reinstall" wordpress cured the problem. The wysiwyg problem has been 100% solved now, so if you are still seeing issues, it's just something triggering it.

    We use ACF on all websites and it's a fantastic and well supported plugin.
