[Plugin: AddThis] Addthis conflicting with 'More' tag

  • Hi,

    I have recently updated wordpress to 3.4.1 and Addthis to 2.4.3. After doing so, whenever I use the ‘More’ tag in my WordPress posts, Addthis seems to output some rogue code into the post excerpt that looks like the following:

    var addthis_config = {“data_track_clickback”:true,”data_track_addressbar”:true,”data_track_textcopy”:false};
    var addthis_product = ‘wpp-265′;

    This comes up in the post excerpt on the home page or category page or wherever else. In my Addthis settings I have show in excerpts shut off.

    This rogue code only comes up when the ‘More’ tag is used.

    Please let me know if you have any idea why this is happening.

    Hey Shawn,

    Apologies for the delay. Can you share the link to the site with issue? I will check with the theme/plugins in use there.

    Hello, I have the same problem in this website:

    Can you help me?

    I try to upgrade the addthis plugin but I see already the error message.

    do you have any idea for this bug?

    Hey Alessandro, I just started looking for the issue. Will update you here soon.

    HI All,

    I have a similar issue i think- i have used the “more” tag in my posts and have just installed the plugin.. but i cant find where to start editing and choosing my options for what social network icons to display in my posts to share? Does the more tag somehow disable the use or editing of the plugin?

    Thanks for any help.

    @twhite681: You might have disabled showing the buttons in “Excerpts”.
    You can try enabling it from Admin page for WordPress, Settings > AddThis Share, and in Advanced tab, enable excerpts in Show AddThis on … section. Hit save, and check the site.
    Let me know if the issue still exists.

    Hi srijith.v,

    do you have any news about my issue?

    Thank you very much,

    I am dealing with the same issue reported by @shawn_wyt here.

    @alexso84: I couldn’t get your theme as it was a paid one. Can I have access to your Dev site if you have one?

    @burval: I can’t see the issue in your site. Can you let me know the exact page?

    You can reach me on srijith[AT]addthis.com

    Hi Srijith,

    sorry but I can’t give you the access to Dev site because it’s illegal for our company policies.
    Is it impossibile to you to replicate the issue in a standard template?

    Hi @alexso84

    Let me try to get a similar theme. The issue seems to be because of the way theme renders excerpts. In standard templates (using the_excerpts() method to show excerpts) the issue is not occurring.

    Can you check your theme files and let me know which wordpress method is used to print the excerpts? I can assist you if you are not familiar with PHP.

    Here below the print method for excerpts:

    <div class="entry">
    							<?php global $more; $more = 0; ?>
    		                    <?php if ( $woo_options['woo_post_content'] == "content" ) the_content(__( 'Read More...', 'woothemes' )); else echo limit_words(get_the_excerpt(), '40')."..."; ?>
