Plugin activation (3 posts)

If I network activate a plugin via the main domain (e.g. domain.com), will it automatically activate in the subdomains (e.g. subdomain.domain.com)?

For example, if I activate Akismet on domain.com, will that cover subdomain.domain.com or do I have to go into each subdomain and activate it there?

  2. Network activate makes the plugin active on all sub-blogs but usually *does not* fill in any options. Unless the plugin is coded to do so.

Akismet is one where you can hardcode in the plugin one activation key for the entire network.

But if you did a contact form (for example) you still have to go to each blog to set them up.

Since you mention it, Akismet has some requirements for running it on a mu install:

http://akismet.com/commercial/ (See the bit at the end about blog providers.)

    Also: http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/16257

You may want to consider Typepad's solution. It's free and they have verified that they will support mu:

Just throwing that in there since you use that as an example.
